1. Madurai Malligai commonly grown in home and temple gardens are commercially harvested from flowering fields to extract its essence and oil. Evergreen vine bushes of Jasminum sambac species are cultivated in the vast expanse of moist sandy loam sulphur rich soil of Madurai.

The cultivation of Madurai Malli is primarily done during the month of April (Chithirai). Malli yields are high during the summer season, lasting six months, followed by three months of lower production, which increases market demand.
