CHENNAI BEACHES
MARINA
We have variety of beaches and the most famous is the Marina beach.It is known as the PRIDE OF THE CHENNAI.It stretches from the Harbour southwards to the Santhome Cathedral.It is the second largest beach in the world.You can see statues all around the beach which provides the landmark to the beach.People come with their families to spend their leisure time.A number of fast food shops and different rides are there for the children.They also have horse riding for both adults and children.Car parking is also available in this beach.
ELLIOTS BEACH
The next interesting beach is the besant nagar beach which is called as elliots beach.It is the end point of Marina beach.We have the famous Velankanni church and Astalakshmi kovil nearby.The nearby localities are Adyar and Thiruvanmiyur.
MAHABALLIPURAM BEACH
This beach is very famous for art and sculptures.Seven pagodas is the nick name for Mahaballipuran.There is a shore temple near the mahaballipuram beach.. The structures here are made out of granite.They are the oldest existing examples of Dravidian (South Indian) architecture.This temple has been here for more than 1400 years. . It's not particularly large, and the carvings have been badly eroded by the wind and the sea, but this adds to the sense of antiquity.
The area around the temple is now a landscaped park, with guards keeping the hordes of souvenir hawkers at bay.The other sculptures are Five Rathas,Arjuna's Penance,Krishna Mandapam,Mahishasuramardhini Mandapam and Varaha Mandapam .A Shiva lingam is enshrined in the central building and the site can get very crowded on weekends.
VGP GOLDEN BEACH
It is situated 30 kms from chennai city.There are famous beach resort and game amusements.There are rides like break dance,dragon belly super trooper,giant wheel,aeroship,jumping frog,super jet and merrygo round.There are also Go kart,dashing car, and water chute. There are also various shows like folk and other dances that take place in parl premises.There are also settings of Jurassic park and aquarium as sight scenes.There is a multicuisine restaurant called "The rain forest" and a bar called "The golden Bar"and a private beach.There is entry fees for both children and adults.
KOVALAM BEACH
Kovalam Beach Kovalam or Covelong as it was known earlier is a small fishing village located 40 kms from Chennai on the way to Mahabalipuram. Now it is a luxury beach resort. There was a fort built by the Nawab of Carnatic, Saadat Ali. While travelling from Chennai to Mahabalipuram visit Dakshinachitra - a heritage centre. Here traditional crafts persons and folk artists work and perform in the reconstructed period settings of 19th century homes, streets and workspaces of the Southern States of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
